CHAMPIONS LEAGUE |
VIPERS - LIONS 18-56 |
The St. Gallen Vipers hosting the Bergamo Lions in a re-match of their previous EFAF Champions League Southern Conference game- saw the Italians score the same 56 points on the Vipers Defensive, but this time the Swiss scored some points of their own.
The game started with a Warrior song being sung by Jody Gaskin, a Canadian Indian on tour in St. Gallen, Switzerland. However, the warrior-like Tyrone Rush of the visiting team took heed and finished the day scoring all but one touchdown for the Lions team making him the Italian team's Game MVP three consecutive weeks in a row.
Bergamo was not the picture perfect team that has rolled over its' opponents 157 points to 37. They committed many fouls and penalties in this sloppy match-up.
The Vipers seemed to have mental blocks throughout the game and were hesitant to attack from the opening kick-off. However, a few good passing drives proved to much for the Lions defense as they surrendered two TD's in the second quarter to Vipers' MVP D' Amico.
The Vipers offensive line did a good job, but just could not get enough boards to catch against the Bergamo offense led by QB Dino Bucciol.
The game lasted nearly three hours- and I am sure the Vipers team were glad it was finally over. They will now host the Prague Panthers this weekend in Switzerland before getting back to the Swiss Championship which they are leading.
Bergamo will have a break before hosting Prague in the final game of the Champions League South on May 21st.
